NOT EASY TO GET ALONG WITH

WHO'S SPITTING CHERRY PITS?

Ever wondered where the saying "He's not easy to get along with" (literally: "It's not good to eat cherries with him") comes from? It originates from the Middle Ages, when only wealthy people could afford cherries. If poorer people joined them, they would be pelted with cherry pits until they left. This led to the saying: "It's not good to eat cherries with high-ranking people," which was later shortened to "not good to eat cherries with." Luckily, with Der Große Bauer, it’s always good to eat cherries.

CHERRIES, SYMBOLICALLY VIEWED

THE OLD CUSTOM OF BARBARA TWIGS

Cherries have always been seen as a symbol of passion and love. Hence, the church declared them to be impure, forbidden fruit. However, the old custom of Barbara twigs defied this notion. According to this custom, on St. Barbara's Day (December 4th), marriageable girls would place cherry branches in water-filled vases. Each branch was labeled with the name of a potential suitor.

The branch that blossomed first was believed to indicate the chosen one for the following year. A lovely tradition featuring our beloved cherry. By the way, according to the custom, if no blossoms appeared by Christmas, it was said that there would be no marriage. Probably also if the suitor was not actually willing to marry.

THE CHERRY

FULL OF VITAMINS

Cherries are not only wonderfully sweet and delicious, but they also contain numerous minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and iron. Additionally, they are rich in vitamins B1, B2, B6, and vitamin C. Cherries also serve as a source of folic acid, which is particularly important for pregnant women and essential for cell division and blood formation. However, that's not really the main reason why "Der große Bauer Kirsche" is so successful. The primary reason is, of course, its taste. Besides the sweet cherries, our yogurt mainly consists of fresh milk from the Alpine foothills, and you can taste that in every spoonful. We hope you have one in your fridge. If not, head to the dairy aisle. Enjoy!
