PINEAPPLE WITH THE GREEN CROWN

THE QUEEN OF TROPICAL FRUITS!

The pineapple gets its German name from the indigenous term "naná meant" which means "delicious fruit." Botanically, it belongs to the Bromeliad family. Originally, the pineapple comes from South America, where it was highly valued not only as a food but also as a remedy. The pineapple came to Europe via Columbus—when he traveled to Guadeloupe in 1493, the locals gifted him the tropical fruit.

Due to its resemblance to a pine cone, the Spanish called it "pina." This evolved into the word "pineapple" in English. Today, this delicious fruit is imported to Europe from all tropical parts of the world. Here's a tip for buying pineapples: if you can easily pull out the inner crown leaves, the pineapple is ripe.

COCONUT: A TASTE OF THE TROPICS IN YOGURT

HARD SHELL, DELICIOUS CORE!

Once you crack open the shell, the tender flesh of the coconut can enhance various dishes with a tropical vibe. However, the exact origin of the coconut is not entirely clear. The fruits of the coconut palm can drift thousands of kilometers across the seas and still remain viable.

It is believed that the coconut originates from the Pacific Ocean, specifically from the tropical island group of Melanesia. Some claim it comes from Polynesia or Malaysia. What is certain is that the coconut palm loves tropical climates—it doesn't grow in European latitudes. When you buy a coconut here, do the slosh test: the fresher the coconut, the more coconut water it contains. So, shake it! If it sloshes a lot, the coconut is fresh.

VITAMINS GALORE

Sure, what makes "Der Große Bauer Pineapple Coconut" so attractive is primarily its uniquely delicious taste. It's even better to know that, for example, pineapple is packed with vitamins. It contains the enzyme bromelain, which is said to have anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous effects. Additionally, this tropical fruit provides a substantial amount of vitamin C—20 milligrams per 100 grams, which is about one-fifth of an adult's daily requirement. Moreover, these healthy fruits are rich in minerals and trace elements such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, and zinc. Calcium is essential for bones, and iron is important for blood formation. With just 55 kilocalories per 100 grams, pineapple, like most fruits, is low in calories.
